This is where you sign in to MSR, or create your MSR account if you're new.
A successful sign-in always takes you to the Account List. When you're finished using MSR, sign out with Logout — you'll come back to this page.
Your home screen: one card per bank account.
Tapping a card opens the Register for that account (the screen rotates to landscape). Adding an account returns you here with the new card showing its opening balance.
Tapping ⋮ on an Account List card opens a menu of actions for that account only — the account's name is shown at the top so you know which one you're acting on.
Edit, Reconcile, Import, and Export take you to their own screens or hand off to your phone's share sheet. Delete (after you confirm) removes the card from the Account List immediately, along with all of that account's transactions. Closing the menu with the back/close icon does nothing — it's always safe.
One form does both jobs: creating a new account, and editing an existing one (via ⋮ → Edit account, which opens it with the current values filled in).
The heart of MSR — this account's transactions in classic check-register form. It displays in landscape so all columns fit; your phone rotates automatically.
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Date | Transaction date (dd/mm/yy) |
| Payee | Who was paid, or who paid you |
| Description | Free-text memo |
| Clr | Shows c when the transaction is cleared |
| Amount | Negative = money out, positive = money in |
| Balance | Running balance after this transaction |
| ✏ | Edit — shown only on rows that can be edited |
Above the table, the header shows the account's Current Balance, updated instantly after every change. Negative amounts in the Balance column and a negative Current Balance display in red.
Once the account has been reconciled at least once (see Reconcile account), a smaller second line appears beneath Current Balance: "Last reconciled: [date] · [balance]" — your most recent statement date and the balance rolled forward at that reconciliation. Not shown before a first reconcile.
Rows aren't limited to the past — a bill or paycheck entered with a future date takes its place in the register at that date and is included in the running balance from there, so scrolling forward shows your projected balance, not just today's (see Add / Edit Transaction).
Everything updates live: add, edit, delete, clear/unclear, and import all refresh the rows, the running balances, and the Current Balance immediately.
Adding (via the register's + button) and editing (via a row's ✏ pencil) use the same entry sheet, shown in portrait — the screen rotates automatically. Each field has a ? icon; tap it for a short reminder of what goes there.
Tap Save and MSR shows a confirmation listing the Date, Payee, Description, and Amount you entered — the amount with its final sign (negative for money out) — so you can check everything before it's written. Tap Save to confirm, or Cancel (or tap outside the box) to go back and keep editing. The register and Current Balance update as soon as the sheet closes.
When editing an existing transaction, a Delete button appears. You'll be asked to confirm. (Cleared rows can't be opened for editing — unclear them first via the register's Clr cell.)
Tap the X at the top of the sheet. You'll be asked to confirm; nothing is saved.
The Date field isn't limited to today or the past — enter a bill, subscription, or expected paycheck for the date it will actually happen, and it takes its place in the register in date order, included in the running balance from that point on. Many people enter every bill and paycheck they know is coming for the weeks ahead, all on their real dates, then scroll the register to see exactly where their balance runs tight before it happens — the cue to move money from savings ahead of time. Future-dated rows stay uncleared and fully editable until they actually clear, same as any other transaction.
Load transactions straight from a file exported by your bank instead of typing them in. Import always targets the account you opened it from (Account List → ⋮ → Import) — the file's rows go into that account.
The first row must be a header row naming the columns. MSR recognises:
| Column | Required? |
|---|---|
date | Yes |
amount | Yes |
payee | Optional |
description | Optional |
status | Optional (MSR sets cleared status itself on import) |
Column order doesn't matter, and neither does upper/lower case — MSR matches columns by header name. Unknown columns (such as a balance column) are simply ignored. If date or amount is missing, the import stops with an error.
After import, the account's register and Current Balance include the new rows immediately. Importing the same file twice flags every row ⚠ the second time — a strong hint to cancel; if you do import twice, the duplicates arrive uncleared and can be deleted.
Reconciling brings MSR in line with a new bank statement: it clears out confirmed transactions and rolls your balance forward, the same job as ticking off a paper register — automated. Reached from Account List → ⋮ → Reconcile account.
MSR shows a confirmation summarising:
Tap Reconcile on that confirmation to proceed, or Cancel to back out — nothing changes until confirmed.
Every cleared transaction dated on or before the statement date is permanently deleted, and the account's opening balance rolls forward to match the statement. Any uncleared transaction dated on or before the statement is kept, not deleted — it still counts toward your balance. Anything dated after the statement — cleared or uncleared — is left completely untouched either way. This is permanent, which is why the free backup export exists: run it first if you want a record of what's about to be cleared out.
Afterward, the Register header for this account shows a new "Last reconciled: [date] · [balance]" line beneath Current Balance (see Register) — it appears from your first reconcile onward, not before.
Downloads a full CSV copy of one account's transactions. Reached from Account List → ⋮ → Export Transactions, or for free from inside the Reconcile screen via Export backup first (see Reconcile account) — same file, same format, either way.
Tapping Export hands the file to your phone's share sheet — the standard Android "share to…" menu — so you choose where it goes: Google Drive, OneDrive, email, Save to Files, etc. There's nothing to configure first.
A CSV with a header row (date, payee, description, status, amount) and one row per transaction in the account, taken from the account's raw stored data — never a computed balance column. This is the same format MSR imports, so an exported file can be brought back into MSR later (see Import) if you ever need to restore it.
If the account has no transactions, MSR tells you there's nothing to export instead of producing an empty file. Otherwise the share sheet opens immediately with the file ready to send wherever you choose.
Reached from the Account List's Help (ⓘ) → Edit Profile & Password. Lets you change the email address and password on your MSR account while you're signed in.
Shows your current email address, read-only. Tap Change email, enter the new address, and tap Save. MSR sends a confirmation link to both your old and new email address — the change only takes effect once you click the link in both emails.
Enter a New password and Confirm new password. Must be at least 8 characters and include an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number, and a symbol. Tap Save to update it immediately — no confirmation link needed, unlike email.
An email change waits on both confirmation links before it takes effect — your old email still works to sign in until then. A password change applies immediately; you'll need the new password the next time you sign in, but your current session isn't interrupted.
Below Change Password. Permanently deletes your MSR account, every account you've added, and every transaction in them — this cannot be undone.
Tap Delete My Account, then type DELETE into the confirmation field — the button stays disabled until you do. If you want a record of your data first, go back to the Account List and export each account individually (⋮ → Export Transactions) before deleting; MSR doesn't do this automatically as part of the delete step. Once confirmed, MSR deletes everything and signs you out.
